Online school legal FAQs

Is online school legal in the UK?
Yes. In England you must provide a suitable full-time education from age 5, at school or otherwise (Education Act 1996, section 7). An accredited UK online school is one way to meet that duty.
Do I have to follow the national curriculum?
If you deregister for home education you do not have to follow the national curriculum. Families who want British GCSEs usually still choose an online school that teaches it.
How do we leave the school roll?
Write to the school and ask to be taken off roll. Special-school pupils need local-authority consent.
Is matching free?
Yes. Free matching to accredited UK online schools, with no obligation to enrol.
